Week 3

This week was moderately more successful than last week.  I did get some writing and planning done.  Though, as usual, it was less than I had hoped and planned for.   This week I: -drafted and posted 1 blog entry -wrote a page of notes for a new story idea -did a few sessions of freewriting based on ideas for scenes or ideas for stories that I want to write. I am going to , again, post my continuing list of goals for the upcoming week: -organize and prioritize the fiction that I want to write.   -outline the first piece and begin a draft. -organize the notes that I have made over the last few years and begin to organize them with the ideas above. -draft 1-2 additional critical blog posts.

Week 2

I am writing this 2 days late, which is an indication of how last week's writing went.  My attention was diverted elsewhere and I did not make time to write nearly as much as I wanted to.  I did not meet my goals.  The reasons why do not matter.  I just didn't do it. Here is what I did: -Continued making notes on an idea that I have been working on for about 2 years now. -Set up a new place to draft and keep track of scattered story ideas, bits of dialogue, descriptions, and scenes.   I am just going to copy/paste my goals from last week here: -organize and prioritize the fiction that I want to write.   -outline the first piece and begin a draft. -organize the notes that I have made over the last few years and begin to organize them with the ideas above. -draft 1-2 additional critical blog posts.

Week 1

Regrettably, I have not accomplished much this week.  I got caught up in prepping to teach my online course that begins soon.  But this is an accountability blog, not an excuse blog. Here is what I have done: -drafted one scene centering around a piece of technology that may make its way into my story series -drafted a blog post that needs to be edited before being posted -began planning some of the pieces that I want to work on.  No specifics yet, just rounding up some ideas that I have been kicking around for a while. Here is what I plan to do this week: -organize and prioritize the fiction that I want to write.   -outline the first piece and begin a draft. -organize the notes that I have made over the last few years and begin to organize them with the ideas above. -draft 1-2 additional critical blog posts.

Opening, Goals, and Process

Opening:  This is a new blog that I am starting to keep myself accountable to my writing by publicly posting my progress on a weekly basis and forcing myself to write about my own process of writing.  This will likely not be a very entertaining blog, but it is meant more for myself than for anyone else.   Goals: First, I am training myself to write fiction.  I have a long history of writing academic and critical non-fiction but have always wanted to write fiction.  I took some creative writing courses in college and tried to jump into fiction many years ago but have not kept up with it.  I have been keeping notes for different ideas for years now and I want to follow through with some of these ideas.  Based on my experience in writing and on the reading that I have done about writing (as well as just common sense), I believe that the best way to become a better fiction writer is through practice.  I need to learn to write consistently and to do it even when I don't want to.  This b
